Since its founding in 1848,
St.
John’s
Lutheran Congregation of Arnold
(formerly known as Beck Community) realized the importance of a sound program of
Christian education as provided by a Lutheran Christian day school.
- For almost forty years school was held in the church
with the pastor serving as the teacher.
Nearby church members would board pupils who lived a great distance
from the school, especially during the winter and rainy season.
- 1880 - action
was taken to build a log schoolhouse. Members
donated all necessary building materials.
- 1910 - a new structure was build to accommodate growth
of the school
- 1950 - a four classroom brick structure was completed
- 1965 - five classrooms, a gym, utility rooms and office
were added
- 1985- a new kitchen, cafeteria and two more classrooms
were added along with remodeling of existing facilities
- 1994- the congregation began a capital campaign for the
purpose of expanding the church.
- 1998 - the church constructed a narthex, installed an
elevator and additional bathrooms, and remodeled the church basement to
include additional meeting rooms.
- 2002- the
congregation broke ground to build a new church sanctuary
The church and
school are grateful for the many sacrifices made by members of
St. John’s
on behalf of Christian education.
The blessings promised to those who sincerely believe made such
sacrifices worthwhile, for our Lord says, “Train up a child in the way he
should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Proverbs 22:6
